The keyboard. I could really do without the backlight. I like the MacBook keyboard better. Can't get any unwanted surprises underneath the keyboard with that keyboard. But I want a MBP for the hardware...so what's the best way to get around this problem?

The apostrophe helps eliminate confusion of the acronym.

System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse has an option to control backlight.
There is also this.

Which are the best keyboard covers?

It's not the backlight itself that annoys me. I was just pointing out that the light is the reason the keyboard has the gaps under it.

I apologise Bill for being stupid but I really don't understand about what your problem is?

What surprises are you talking about?

If it is backlight - turn the bastard off...
Dirt, use some screen cover?

Again, I never had the MacBook so I don't know what the advantage of that keyboard is..

Sorry...

Er...

Yeah, I'm kind of curious about the gaps on the keyboard as well. One of the first things I thought was that something is going to get under there like crumbs and what not. I actually find the gap distracting to since you can see more of the light coming from the gap then the letters of the keyboard. I'm not sure why the gap is there.

Does anyone know how the keyboard covers work? I'm assuming there are holes for the keys so you actually type by pressing the keys and not plastic over the keys. But if it lays flat down between the keys then how will it cover the gaps efficiently?

You'd be assuming wrong. There's no need for your fingertips to actually contact the keys, it's not a touchscreen. They just lay completely over the keyboard and are molded to the shape of the keys.

The Moshi is good. It took a while for me to get used to the different response of tapping the cover but it fits very well and I like having it there to prevent whatever dust might get underneath/in between the keys

The gaps are there for a reason. Think logically, where do the fans suck the air from to cool the cpu/gpu? On a unibody, there're no other holes than under keys and the speaker mesh/holes - if you cover those up, your laptop will overheat and shut down.

Aren't the keyboards (and the gaps) the same on current MacBooks, MacBook Airs, MacBook Pros, Apple Wireless Keyboards and the Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad?

I think 99% of keyboards have similar gaps ... as for the wonderful backlit keys on the MBP ... just turn the backlight off

The Keyboard on the MacBook Pro is one of my favourite keyboards on the laptop market.

I love the current unibody keyboard so much better than my previous PowerBook G4 (with backlit keyboard).

Not only is the current keyboard easier to use, it's actually easier to clean with a spray duster (canned air).

Most of the time I'm using my MBP in closed lid mode anyway with a full external keyboard and 27" ACD.

There's only one thing. Feels hot as heck when the computer heats up in my lap.

Other than that, no complaints whatsoever.
