I have a 2011 mb pro 17in 2.2 with 8gb ram and 2x 7200rpm hard drives.
The last mac I had was in 2005.
1. I don't under stand why people are crying about heat. If its that big of a problem and you think the parts are going to fail at some point get apple care.
2. When I installed the data double from owc it was hard as hell trying to get the top right screw in so I took all the screws out and just used non conductive tape for the last few weeks and it works great. I love owc tch support and after doing what they said no problems.
3. I am going to add the one program that i think every mac needs. Tuxera is a program that will let you read and write to any ntfs formated drive at its only $35 bux. Don't bother with the free ver as it does not work.
4. For what ever reason for pictures and videos if I right click open with and select vlc player it will open just that video with vlc player. but all of my other videos open with the default player even if you select always open with. Talk about annoying as ****. So every day when you download files you have to tell it to open each file with what ever program. Can you just assign all .avi files to open with vlc?
5. I did not go with a SSD drive because if you have to hunt for 1 drive from x brand to work or x brand does not work but this x brand does then Its pretty clear that SSD needs to become way more mainstream. As in all SSD will work with all computers. just like a 7200 drive will work with pc or mac.
6. But you don't need 16gb of ram. 3 words. Modo/Zbrush/mudbox
7. I love parallels desktop. I use it for a tv tuner. How ever i use aver media and the screen does not display full screen on my Xbox 360 games. Is their a Mac hardware+software that will let you full screen your Xbox 360 games?
8. When making backup of my dvd's I can't seem to open programs more then once. If I have 2 cd rom drives how do you open the dvd programs twice so you can rip 2 at one time? 1 to each of my hard drives.
Over all I am real happy I have paid for all of my programs so far. No cracks here. But its costed me some real money. I love my mac over my big alienware m17 from 2 years ago. I don't think i will ever go back.
I just need a good picture viewer now. I know about ACDSEE but i wonder if there is something alittle cheaper but some what still as good?
