If Apple doesn't release Leopard at WWDC 2007 (and they probably wont), they should release a free public beta, similar to what Microsoft did with Vista. Or maybe have a preorder program, where if you preorder a copy of Leopard, you get a free beta disk or something. This would be good for people like me who are just itching to give Leopard a try, and also to put a dent in piracy, since I'll bet you a big chunk of the people downloading Leopard of torrent sites normally obtain their software legally.

it would be a horrible move, imo.
for one, there is no reason to. they only did it with the first iteration of OS X to get people using it, no such reason with Leopard. it'd be more hassle than its worth for them to be honest, and probably take away from sales in the end.

be patient.

Which is why I suggested a possible preorder package. If Apple did that, I'd put my money down in an instant, as I'm sure most Mac geeks would as well.

yeah, but whats the point if you're not a developer? and again, more hassle. they'd have more issues to deal with, more complaints. like i said, its just not worth it

What was the point of the Vista public beta?
It could be worth it, if they pulled it off right.

well look at the hardware and userbase of windows compared to OS X.
there's your difference. and it had been a lot longer since an OS Upgrade and they needed to hype it and get people interested. apple doesn't have to do either.

GHall,

PlaceOfDis is right. His reasons are precisely why Apple will not be releasing a general beta to anyone but developers.

I see more probable downside than possible gain, sorry. MS Beta copies are pretty much complete. Not sure if an Apple DC is as free of untested code.

Don't be so hard on ghall, his mom likes him :p
