I love TenFourFox, but I've never been a fan of its app icon.

Cameron Kaiser is aware that some users don't like it and made the suggestion of changing the icon in one of his blog posts using the standard method. Get Info on the icon you want to use, click on the icon and copy, then Get Info on the T4Fx icon, click on the icon and then paste.

I've been doing this on my PowerBook and now my G5 for a while. I use the Aurorafox icon. Aurorafox, as you may or may not know, was the Leopard only version of T4Fx up to version 20. I much preferred that version but since development stopped I had to go back to T4Fx.

But I keep a torch for Aurorafox by using it's icon.

Here it is:

What do you use? If anything?

I think the default icon is fine. Actually more of an attention getter than the normal Firefox icon. It also serves as a nice reminder that I'm using a PPC Mac instead of a normal Intel one.

Did Cameron Kaiser also develop Aurorafox? I have always thought it was from Mozilla
No, Kaiser did not. One of the people who was helping him did. Forget the name.

But Aurorafox was from TenFourFox as TenFourFox was from Mozilla. Kaiser did his thing with T4Fx and then the dev of Aurorafox took that code and optimized it for OS X Leopard. Aurorafox will not run on Tiger or less.

The site is gone now, but here it was through the Internet Wayback Machine.

Eri[k] (oops :D), for TFF, I converted a random siri gif I found online into my icon. The stock TFF icon certainly wins the fugly award.

FYI, I used to use PS4 to convert icons but that is a PITA process, so nowadays I use this handy img2icns app. It's free to use. You can buy if you like it. I think it is certainly worth it just for ease of use alone. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, there are universal Tiger and Leopard download links as well.

:)

Hmmmm…I can see an app for converting images, but it's not something I've ever really done. I usually just do a Google search for icons and then take what I find.

You can open an image in Preview, Select All, Copy and then paste into the icon area of the Get Info box and it will keep any alpha channels. But normally I will just Get Info on something I've downloaded (usually a PNG with alpha) and then copy/paste from there.

This is on the MP at work, but it shows what I mean. Notice the shadow around the icon for Fluid? That means I have clicked on the icon and therefore 'selected' it. If I just do a CMD+C (for Copy) and then click on the Firefox icon to the left there, it will select the Firefox icon. At that point all I have to do is CMD+V (for Paste) and my Fluid icon overwrites the Firefox icon for the Firefox app.

This is normally how I do this for my Aurorafox icon as well as any other icon in the system.

Don't know if I just told you something you already know. :D

Thanks for the link!

NP. That is also how I typically add a customized icon. I was referring to the PITA process for cropping an round object in a photo, deleting existing & creating a new transparent background via vector whatever nonsense, saving to web format like gif or png so on and so forth. The one aspect of this app is that my copy of PS4 does not have a ico or icns extension to save to. I'm certainly not a PS knowitall by any stretch so maybe there is a way to add that functionality but I don't know what it is LOL.

So in short, with the app, most of that is circumvented. Any process with more than two steps is firmly in the anti-intuitive arena for me and thus blows. :D Why I even own PS4 I have no idea as it is like the KING of the "Lets make confusing completely un-intuitive, convoluted, million step software" companies ... but I do, so I painfully trip through it each time haha. If I can find a "so-easy Rhian could do it" app, I'm all for it lol.

I've not seen that in a while! I used to use Aurora all the time, it was an excellent piece of kit.

Lovely icon.
