The stock market for the Apple drop like 40%
And the new iPhones look like lost their advantages against the Android both function and price plus the innovation
What if Apple gives the IOS to other phone companies with a fee, the App store gonna make them the No.1 company again?

That is the day I would sell my iPhone X and move on to another OS.

Would it even work on a non Apple device? Since all the hardware is meticulously picked, tuned and designed by Apple, would iOS even boot on a Snapdragon/Exynos device?

True, just want others know how important is the App Store.

Apple can still push services and apps w/o losing their OS integrity. It requires Tim Cook and other board members to really reset Apple's approach w/ phone hardware and software development.

Forget the Jobs' Apple hubris and Cook Apple hubris. Consumers react well to the Apple Pencil? Offer support in the 2019 iPhones. People want split-screen apps on their iPhones? Use the larger real-estate to offer features on the 6S+ or bigger/newer since the iPad supports that feature. Stuff like that isn't hard to do to play catchup and offer a contemporary experience in addition to having the processors, FaceID, etc.

As for the innovations, Apple should try to understand the market better and offer features people will use. Three cameras isn't what will be that enticing. A foldable display could be useful down the road, but gimmicky at launch. I am not a phone innovation idea person, so it's hard to think about something Apple can do that isn't really known or completely unexpected.

Apple kills the very first generation Foldable phone.
And Apple never followed competitors.
So there will be no foldable for Apple

Then jailbreaking has the last nail driven into the coffin.

OTOH, I can stop complaining that I have to jailbreak to get what I want.

Apple (currently) has a different business model than the other two consumer OS giants, Microsoft and Google. It is still a hardware centric company, while both Microsoft and Google are diversified, with hardware not being as important to their bottom line. Give others iOS and Apple will have created additional competition with no real upside.

In ten years, when thin clients are king, sure. Then the software running in Apple's custom chips will be where they create (even more) advantage.
And Apple never followed competitors.
Everyone follows the money. If Samsung's foldable phone is a hit and affects Apple's sales, Apple will follow, just as they did with larger phones (Steve Jobs made fun of larger phones in 2010), just as they did with wireless charging (Shiller said it was useless in 2012), just as they did with OLED screens (Tim Cook making fun of it in 2013).

Nice try John Sculley, it was a bad idea with macOS way back when and it will be a bad idea with iOS
