Lets say your iPhone has no passcode. What if someone put a passcode on it?
 
My friends used to do this to me all the time back in high school... There are tools to recover it if you have an A4 or earlier device. Otherwise restoring is probably your only real option.
 
IMO restore is suitable option......You can also see how to put iPhone in restore mode for exact instructions.
