We know the upcoming iPhone Slim is going to have a really thin body, and a really light weight body. That implies a much smaller battery.

We know iPhone struggles with battery life especially with newer versions of iOS. And if they dramatically reduce the battery, It’s going to be complicated to stand one day without needing to be plugged mid-day.

So… here’s what I thought. The new M4 chip has already jumped from 4 efficiency cores to 6, and this cores have been increasing their power year after year. I think they are ready to ship an iPhone SoC with efficiency cores only, if not by the A18 gen, then by the A19 gen, or maybe even the A20 gen.

The way they could make the iPhone 17 Pro still appealing with its thickness, would be using a couple of performance core on the A19 Pro, while leaving the A19 Bionic or however they call the chip on the iPhone 17 Slim with just efficiency cores. I think 6 e-cores of this new architecture we’ve seen on the M4 is more than enough. And, of course, a less powerful/ more efficient GPU.

This SoC would need much less energy to work, and the small (thin) battery could be more than enough with such a CPU.

And if you’re wondering about the regular iPhone 17, that could have a binned version of the A19 Pro (without the Pro moniker of course) with just one performance core.

All of them would have the same powerful Neural Engine to efficiently power all the Machine Learning and AI features.

What do you think?

And, of course, a less powerful/ more efficient GPU.
I think it's going to be hard to sell people on a cool new iPhone model that would struggle to play the latest games, especially considering how much Apple like to promote Apple Arcade and how powerful their processors are.

Sold! I would buy an iPhone Slim that only had 4 efficiency cores and a lightweight GPU. I don’t game.

I want 48hr battery life and 30% less weight. I bet with 2nm this would be possible. Again, with the serious CPU and GPU compromises that I’m literally asking for. 😊

Well, my concept involves more efficiency cores to make up for the lack of performance cores. Right now I don’t feel like start making numbers, but I’m pretty sure that with 6 efficiency cores like those on the M4 we could achieve a CPU performance level of an A15 Bionic.

And if, like you say, the A19 comes in 2nm already, I think a 6 e-core CPU could have the same performance as an A17 Pro. More than enough to move iOS 18, 19 or 20 with all the AI features.

The GPU, while being less powerful / more efficient than those in the main A19 Pro SoC, would still be capable of moving games at decent quality. Just look at the A17 Pro and how many great AAA games it runs! I don’t think a more efficient GPU built on N3P or N2 process would be slower than the one on the iPhone 15 Pro. And that’s more than enough, as we’re seeing.

I don’t think this slimmer device is oriented towards raw power, because of obvious thermal constraints and battery size.

Apple can simply downclock a regular A19, no need to design a unique chip. This is a mainstream product, not a specialty one. The rumored use of aluminum tells you that.

That’s a key factor I hadn’t taken into account, manufacturing costs for a chip oriented towards just one device. Yeah, maybe they could artificially disable the P-cores, but designing a new chip is unlikely.

This could be Apple's answer to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip so I don't think it will perform worse than the regular form factor iPhones...

Since Samsung introduced foldables, they seem to have taken the spot of being the flagship from the S/Note series...

I'm not sure how "new" it will be, it sounds as if Apple are revisiting the iPhone SE with a new moniker. I would be highly interested in a new version of an iPhone, though less powerful, that carried a lower price tag - the prices of iPhones are getting ridiculous. I don't game, stream media nor care about photography, so this type of device sounds good to me.

We used to buy phones that could take photos. But, nowadays we only buy cameras that can make phone calls. I think the emphasis as changed and the cost has ballooned as a result.

The iPhone Slim will be the iPhone Ultra

it will best the iPhone Pro on all counts and mostly should beat Pro Max on all counts except that battery life might be a bit worse (larger display doesn’t mean better)

it would be thinner without any compromise

Since this iPhone Slim/Ultra is rumored to cost more than the Pro Max, I wonder if Apple will update it every year or every 2 years.

This iPhone Slim/Ultra is gonna be full of state of the art technology like the iPhone X had.

The main sell of this device is gonna be the super thinness and light weight all while keeping Pro features

I have a feeling there gonna call this thing “iPhone Nano,” and it’s gonna sell like hot cakes 🥞
