What if the iPhone 5 is being manufactured by a different source.

Not Foxcon but another manufacturer that may be so water tight with leaks that Apple has had them manufacturer it's cutting edge new device and all we are seeing is an upgraded iPhone 4 that is still being manufactured at foxcon.

Ever since the gizmondo iPhone 4 fiasco, Steve Jobs and Apple would make it a point that leaks for their new revolutionary device will not happen!

Could this be a possibility?

We will find out soon enough in about 11 days ;)

Does that seem like a possibility?

hmm. that's quite a suggestion considering foxconn (am i the only one that thinks "metal gear solid" when i say that word?) has shifted some production of iPads to their brazillian factory

I doubt this. Manufacturing the iPhone 5 is the biggest deal in the industry, if some other company got this deal then I doubt it stayed quiet.

Yup. OP, this is actually a possibility. We'll find out soon enough. 4 October just can't get here quick enough!

I don't understand why Apple wouldn't take the opportunity to do it on the 5th! You know, iPhone 5, iPod touch 5, iOS 5 on October 5? Just like they did with iPad 2, revealed on March 2.

Although it would be cool if they did that, by this point I just want it to get here quicker. Although, after waiting this long, one day wouldn't really be a big deal.

No. :apple:

Apple is keeping the iPhone 5 under heavy security. I believe it was not allowed to leave the apple campus, just the internals were being tested in iPhone 4 shells outside of the apple.

My guess is after the iPhone 4 leak, they have made sure nothing gets out before it's unveiled.
iPhone 5 has a tear drop design, 4 inch screen. There is an iPhone 4s coming as well. Yes, the 4 inch screen can't be called a retina display anymore.

Could be Foxconn just tightening up on security, hence the only thing coming out are case designs through word of mouth from the employees. The iPad 2 design was leaked but I believe those pics came out within the week of release and couple people went to jail for it.

Who Cares, far too much is being made out of introducing a flippin phone

Actually, the iPad 2 was leaked the night before the event. It was quite a surprise since everyone just decided to wait a few more hours for the announcement. MacRumours was slowly dwindling down on posts. Then BAM! The picture was posted and tech blogs were getting a slew of comments. I kinda wish something like that would happen again. It was actually kinda fun. Maybe not a full-fledged leak, but like a picture of the corner of the phone or something.
