What info can I get from my iPhone while it is connected?

I would like to find out if I can get any information from my iPhone while it is connected to my mac. I know I can get the serial number through system profiler but I would like to find out if I can use a terminal command to get other information like battery status (charging, percentile, etc.).

Can't you just look at the phone for the battery info? Additionally, iTunes will display if the battery is being charged or not.

I could just look but that's not my purpose. I would like to be able to retrieve this information to use on the computer itself in various scripts.
