Hi folks,

I have a MacBook Pro, not the current model but the previous model. Here is the data:

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.28f2

I can't see any additional information on what exact version of the Core 2 Duo is in my computer. Is this information available?

I'm wondering if it's best to install 64-bit versions of some software or if I should stick with the 32-bit version.

Looking at the Intel site, the table indicates that all Core 2 Duo models are 64-bit processors. Can someone confirm this?

Many thanks,

Yes, all Intel Core 2 duo Macs are 64 bit, but 64 bit works best with multi-core processors, or Intel processors with more than 2 cores for Grand Central Dispatch.
OP do you really think the forum is more qualified to confirm Intel's processors than Intel themselves? I found that interesting that you asked to confirm Intel's claim. :)

Maybe I didn't state my question accurately!

Well, maybe I didn't ask the question properly. I meant, if someone could confirm the version (specific model) of the Core 2 Duo in the Mac, then I could look up the spec details on the Intel site.

There are some 20 versions of the Core 2 Duo and I haven't been able to find any information (even on the apple site) that specifies what version is in the MacBook. Even worse, the configuration shown in "About this Mac..." doesn't match up with any on the Intel site. For instance, I have 6 MB L2 cache, and 2.5GHz processor. That combination is not listed on the Intel site for any of the Core 2 Duo versions!

Thanks all for your replies...!
