i discovered this program on my laptop but i can't rmemeber if its something i downloaded or it came standard on my macbook pro, or i don't really need it and can delete it.

thanks

Don't know the technical details, but I think it has to do with Quicktime, iTunes, streaming media, etc. You probably shouldn't delete it.

Akamai is basically a content distribution network - they are used in the distribution of lots of content. Apple is a big customer of Akamai, but they are used to distribute large software packages. Adobe used them to distribute their software demos.

You can read about them here.

It isn't a standard program but it was probably a downloader for something else.
