I use a lot of forums and was thinking about getting tapatalk.

Can someone explain the difference to me between Tapatalk and Tapatalk Pro. They are both in the ios App Store. Tapatalk which is free has in app purchases and Tapatalk Pro, which cost money, does not have in app purchases. So is the paid pro version the same as the free version but with all the in app purchases already installed? Also I noticed the two apps are made by different companies. But yet the advertisement literature is almost identical. Very very confused.

Thanks
K

That Quoord company you see listed owns Tapatalk. I agree it is confusing the way they show ownership in iTune store. The Pro app is just the free app with ads and the Tapatalk watermark removed.

It is an iOS app used to read web forums like this one.

Again, my ignorance but is this better than using Safari to view this forum? I know on my Android tablets some webpages and forums come up in a tablet format instead of a desktop view.

It is just a custom interface made for reading and replying on forums. It is easier to do some things like upload an image for example.

Here is a screenshot I just took from the iPhone Tapatalk app. I can just type my reply in the bottom there and tap send and be done. Just easier to navigate than trying to do it in a browser.

I just downloaded the pro app and it turns out that most of my forums aren't listed in the search panel. Lesson learned. Oh well , guess I got to use the ole browser!

It's interesting that both apps are not from the same group. The PRO version sure has terrible reviews too.

They are both from the same company. They just have one listed under the company name and the other under the product name.

I stand corrected.
Thanks for the added info.
(I do wonder though why the PRO version isn't being well received.)

The Tapatalk devs have kind of long long history of let's just say not very customer friendly moves. Name changes and minor version changes then charging upgrade fees. The whole Tapatalk HD thing for the iPad where we paid for what was to be a iPad specific app, then they abandoned that in favor of a universal Tapatalk Pro app that was just a stretched out version of the iPhone app (although that was remedied last week with V3.0 finally).

Take a look at this thread in the Tapatalk support forums. In October 2013 someone asked what is up with HD vs. Pro and finally got a clear answer in June 2014. It is just a joke.

Honestly, if there was a better alternative, I would be all over it even if it cost double but I have never seen an alternative.

Tapatalk is the only way I now use forums and if they don't offer it I just don't frequent the forum.

Exactly, but I use android (pro) and windows version. I actually never used it with iPad and didnt know that they started to support iOS too. With android this works well. If I get Air2 again, which tapatalk version is the current one in iOS or is it even worth to d/l it to iPad?

The Tapatalk Pro V3 universal app is what you want now for iPad. The new V3 version is actually pretty decent now with this last update a week or so ago.

Thanks!

It is so confusing with these names.. they dont have another version for tapatalk pro in android anymore, but they still use the Pro name in iOS. Phuuh!
