There really should be some sticky for these posts, these seem to be coming like every 2-3 days...
Your Mac is not sleeping at all - or is waking up. If you google "what is preventing macos from sleeping", you will find lots of resources how to fix it:
This is first:

and this third one is very good:
It's bad enough that your kid never goes to sleep, but now your Mac is doing the same thing! Sure, it may not be crying, but your Mac just sits there, awake, without giving you any indication as to why.

Note, that while you may assume closing lid will force sleep, it is not true. It only requests sleep, but computer with closed lid can (and will) wake up or not even go to sleep under many conditions.
Some common issues are:
1. External monitor connected. Closing lid will not sleep computer so you can operate in clamshell mode.
2. Some USB accessories. Which ones seem to vary, but external drives may cause this as well as some other devices (e.g., SD cards). You can find whole long discussions on which ones prevents sleep in this forum.
2a. Trivial & easy one: I forgot my BT mouse on and put both mouse and computer in the bag. Mouse was waking up the computer since it looked like it is active and BT mouse can wake up computer. Even with closed lid.
More complicated? Get familiar with terminal and command pmset (the second link above):
3. iCloud or other Apple service having issues and failing to finish in reasonable time. This is ugly one - usually you have to log out of iCloud and other services and log in again.
4. Some other process or app is hanging and prevents sleep.
5. Rarely hardware issue.
This is problem which requires some research. Most macOS installations sleep very well - my MBP looses at most 2% of battery power overnight, typically less. So this is not generic macOS problem, it is specific to your setup and software.
