ok, maybe this is just an example of the l33tness of Apple programers, but 08 adds one app, and yet is less than half the size of iWork 06?!?

is this right or is it only the demo that is that small?

isn't the trial a full version missing only a key?

my 06 is 1.34gigs

my trial 08 is 687 megs.

what am i missing here?

Yeah, I deleted the iWork '06 folder that came on my MacBook too - it was well over a gig (1.37 I wanna say) and the retail iWork '08 is the same as you guys' - 687. I guess they pruned the program and got rid of stuff that wasn't necessary. That or maybe it has something to do with being Universal Binary.

Ah I get it, these do not appear to be Universal Binaries, but Intel-only on my computer (there is no "run under Rosetta" option). That would certainly account for smaller size.

The only thing that I can imagine is that they've already moved some things into the operating system, hence the reliance of iWork '08 on 10.4.10 or later but it's definitely smaller.

The difference is due to the way graphics are accessed by the templates. In iWork '05 & '06 the various graphics in the templates existed in each language version. Now, the templates share resources. Since there are about 15 different language versions of the templates, that a lot of space saved.
