What is Northstar?

I came upon someting called northstar and its on sales in the apple store. The site does not tell me what it does or how it works. I was lost when it talked about network and log in.

Can anyone explain how it works?

If I understand it correctly, Northstar is basically a web interface for a remote desktop client. The claim that it allows Windows software on your computer seems rather dubious. It is actually running on their servers…
