This is on a rMBP I bought, and despite reformatting and installing my system it still appears.

What is it?

Is it of any use?

How can I get rid of it ( I've tried dragging it out - but it only re=appears when I restart ).

cheers

:)

It is the remote disk feature that allows you to access an optical drive on another Mac to install software etc.

You can hide it by opening Finder then command-comma to bring up Finder preferences then go to the Sidebar tab and Uncheck CD DVD and iPods in the Devices section at the bottom.
