what is everyone refering to shsh for? do i need to do something to upgrade to 3.1.2 to 4.0.1 and then jailbreak?

Do you mean SSH?
It stands for secure shell. I think if you want to upgrade you need to update your iOS then rejailbreak.

well i know what ssh is. i just saw people talking about shsh. i got confused. on cydia do i need to agree to let them know my ECID?
