What is so screwed up with fetch?

Alright, I use gmail on my iPhone. It's been sitting on my table for the past 2 hours without me accessing it, didn't do anything with e-mail.

Just logged into my gmail account. This shows the recent connections on my account.

All of the IMAP connections, 4 within 30 minutes? Is this phone fetching every single time it hops onto a new phone tower..?
