I am trying to understand why Amazon and Kobo don't sell e-books directly from their apps. I presume it likely had to do with the cut that Apple is going to take from the purchase. Is that the case? Or is there some other reason that they are not able to sell e-books for some reason via Apple?

Seems to be the it's "electronic delivery" to the app, so yeah, Apple gets a cut of the purchase. The Amazon app lets you buy whatever you want as long as it's physically delivered to you; that bypasses the Apple fees. Kindle and Audible you have to buy on the website though, so that Amazon can avoid that cut.

If I'm using my Audible "Points" to buy a book - I can buy that through the app. And the same with Kindle Unlimited. But of course I've already paid for those, outside of the apps.
