What is the best file type for iMovie Videos

I have a web site selling e-books. I just created a how to video with iMovie and want to offer that for sale on my web site too. I want the file that my customer's download to be useable on PC's as well as MAC's. So what is the most common file type and how to do I save the movie to create that file type in iMovie?
