At the moment I am doing my TM backups from my two laptops and a M1 Mini onto a number of HDDs attached to a 2012 Mini server.
I am thinking of retiring the 2012 Mini and use the M1 mini for the TM backups instead.
This would involve attaching 2 external SSDs in addition to the 2 SSD already attached.
As the M1 Mini only has 2 USB-C ports, what is the best Hub that would support and power 4 SSD?
Thanks

A powered Thunderbolt one. For example, the WavLink Thunderdock SP V.

Why not use a large hard drive with partitions for each computer? It is generally a waste of money to use SSDs for TM as you don't need the speed and the extra cost means a smaller capacity and less backup history.

Make sure to have a 3-2-1 backup strategy as TM backups tend to fail.

I run a small recording studio and I need absolute silence.
That is the reason I am currently using a server for TM backups onto HDDs in a different room.
In any case SSDs are very cheap now. In fact so cheap that I cannot longer justify the hassle of maintaining a separate server.

By the way, as well as the TM I also keep multiple CCC backups on and off site, as well as having everything on iCloud.

Any suggestion for a suitable Hub?

Well… yes, of course a powered Thunderbolt one, but which one can support and power 4 SSDs (probably Samsung T7s).
The one you suggest is designed as a docking station and it provides a selection of ports that are no use to me.

I mean, I could just buy one and try it out, but someone else’s hands on experience would be useful.

Your past posts seem to indicate you are in the UK.

This is an excellent (£170) deal for a Thunderbolt 3 dock with 2 usb-c and 3 usb-a ports - all 10GB/s .
Of course as a TB dock it has all the rest, because that's what its expected to do, but if you don't use the other stuff it doesn't interfere with data transfers to ssds.
Its got an Intel Titan Ridge controller chip, which is what Apple Macs are most compatible with (I find in practice).
And its usb 3 ports give faster throughput to 10GB/s usb 3 external drives than my M1 Mac mini does when they are connected directly - by about 200MB/s.

Its under 30% of its original price - and it contains a 1TB nvme ssd as a bonus...
For £50 more there is a 2TB version.
