I'm looking for the best IM service out there...

Something that is free. Something that will also work on my iPhone preferably with Push Notification.

My main need is that its some kind of App that will allow me to chat across various services (some of my friends use Facebook, some use Skype IM, some use aim, some yahoo, some msn and some are on ICQ). Its just too many different IM services to keep up with. Is there a program out there that can talk to everyone and keep things simple?

If not - Please listen up programming people, there is a need out there to simplify. Please help!

Thanks in advance

Trillian Astra is more than perfect. I am almost 100% positive that you will not find one that you like better. (But I could be wrong). And its FREE :D.

It can run the following:

Astra
AIM
Yahoo!
ICQ
Windows Live (MSN)
MySpaceIM
Google Talk
Jabber/XMPP
Facebook
Twitter
Skype
Bonjour
IRC
POP3 Mail
IMAP Mail

And yes, they do have an iPhone version.
Also available for Windows and they have a Web version.
Mac version is in developement but they do have public beta available (I think?)

EDIT: I don't know if the iPhone app is free or not...

I like Adium. I know it can handle the biggies like AIM, MSN messenger, ICQ, Facebook, etc. The only one I'm not sure about is Skype. It's easy to use and configure and has a lot of options. Plus, I love the cute little duck icon. He flaps when you have a new message. :)

Edit: Well, it looks like there isn't an iPhone version of Adium. From looking on the site, it appears it will be a while before they have one. I have no idea on the Iphone side.

^Yes, but isn't that like 10 bucks?

I GET A PICTURE NOW!!!! WOOT!!! HAPPY 500 POST TO ME :)))))))

EDIT: It won't let me :( The only thing there is a radio button that says "do not use" and I can't deselect it nor is there an upload option... :(

EDITED EDIT: Arn't you people glad some of us do our homework

I can't upload an avatar

Once you reach 500 posts, you may not immediately be able to upload an avatar. The privilege is added automatically when the forum system does routine processing, so check again in a few hours. The delay is normal, so please do not contact us to report it as a problem on the same day that you reach 500 posts.
