There are quite a lot of options to choose from now, especially with the Elgato dock now released. Which one is the best one to choose right now? The main thing that i'm looking for is having additional USB 3.0 slots.

Hard to say. None of them are bullet proof with every device and they're all about the same price.

My Belkin TB dock works really well.

Depends on your needs, HDMI I don't need but FW/USB3.0 I do.

USB3.0 is "limited" to 2.5GB/s - preserves the TB throughput I guess.

However, that has not limited any of my drives thus far, including a UASP
Inateck box with Samsung EVO SSD.

For spinning drives - no issue.

ATD. It includes a 27" IPS screen. None of the others charge your rMBP. IF you need more USB3 ports, use a hub connected to a rMBP.

Caldigit TB station.

It works really well thus far, and is fairly affordable at its $200 price for the features that you get with it.

So do you JUST need USB ports? If so, CalDigit, but is that really all you need?

What about a display? Do you need to hook one up directly? What about firewire? What about eSATA?

Do you already have USB 3.0 (i.e. a Mac from 2012 or 2013?), if so why not just a simple USB 3.0 hub?

Sorry, I should have clarified. I do use an external monitor. Are there any docks with eSATA? That would be wonderful; I've got a Thermaltake dock with an eSATA port I haven't considered using
