What is the difference between 6 and 6 Plus?

What is actually different internally??

If Apple can install the same technical spec components in a 4.7" iPhone, then what is taking up the empty space inside a 5.5" form factor?

Mostly larger battery.

Software-wise the 6 Plus also has optical image stabilization and landscape view.

Those are the only differences I'm aware of.

Actually, the optical image stabilization on the 6 Plus is hardware, which is why it is not found on the 6. The battery and OIS camera hardware are the big differences, aside from the screen size/resolution.
