Between do not disturb and just putting your phone on Airplane mode?

weird question, let's just say that airplane mode shuts down all signal transmissions, wifi etc.

by enabling do not disturb the notifications will not be displayed.

Do not disturb function can allow your favourite contacts to get thro and you can also set it to come on and turn off at a set time.

Airplane remains active until you manually disable it and it completely disables your iPhone.

How is it a weird question when I didn't know the answer?

As far as I could see both functions essentially did the same thing as I can still use wifi when in airplane mode.

I now know that I can receive some selected calls etc in do not disturb. I can also set a timer.

DND continues to check emails and accepts texts / iMessages, it just won't light up or alert you of them... but, if you touch your phone, they'll all be listed nicely on the lock screen for you.

how do i change settings for DND mode... all i see is a slider in settings for DND on/off... but how do i set particular contacts to override the DND...

Set DND to On then go to notification center to set it any way you want. I know it sounds confusing but..
