iPod What is the dock connector that comes with the new 2G Nano?

I was just wondering what the dock connector is that the 2G iPodNano. Is it actually the dock? My brother just ordered one and he wants to know.
 
It is a USB cable with the 30-pin dock connector at one end. It does not come with a dock.

I remember the days when iPods came with everything-a dock and much more.
