What is the function of this connector?

So I had this strange transaction where I received a pretty much non-functional MBA late 2010 for my money (long story). I noticed while checking the inside that the connector (see attached picture) which was freely hanging. What is the function of it and should be it hanging there not connected to anything? :eek:

I'm not sure what it is exactly, but it looks like it's broken off to me. See if you can find a nearby place where the black plastic looks broken off.
