Excuse my ignorance here, but a new icon has appeared in the control strip that I can't identify (and haven't sort out by googling): it's a bar graph in a white circle. It appears directly to the left of the brightness icon. It just appeared there today and it doesn't do anything when I touch it...

What is it and why is it there?

Thanks!

I think you're describing the media button. Clicking it should open a scrubber for videos playing in safari/music playing in iTunes

Which app? iTunes? I think it's the Now Playing button and will bring up the scrub bar when something is playing.

It doesn't appear to be related to iTunes or Safari. I quit all programs a moment ago and it was still there, doing nothing when I touched it...

That is a bug that I have experienced too. The only solution is to reboot. Hopefully 10.12.2 released today fixes it - try updating your software.

It's and iTunes control button. You can use it to play music and scrub through songs w/o going back to iTunes. You can then click the iTunes button, which is now present when the graph button expands the touch bar, and it's a shortcut to iTunes.

Thanks -- that does appear to be it. The first time I quit iTunes, it stayed there. But quitting again a minute later made it go away. Oddly, now that I have iTune back again, it's now no longer there in the control strip, but perhaps this has to do with the fact that I'm now no longer seeing the Safari touch bar icons even though I'm in Safari (the iTunes stuff is there instead). Maybe I need to reboot... This would be the first issue I've had with the device... (if it's an issue...)
