Hi! I have 2 A2140 MagSafe Chargers both with different firmware versions.

I’m having charging issues, both say my iPhone 16 Pro is charging but it actually does not charge.

Out of curiosity, I checked the firmware version and was surprised to see them both on very different versions.
I can’t find an Apple support document showing what the latest firmware version is for this model… any ideas?

This is what my 25 watt version is showing I can’t find my 15 watt version to compare.

I don’t think this is the latest update. It’s charging my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I wonder if the latest firmware requires the latest iPhone.

For the original charger (A2140), the latest version is 258.0.0 from May 2023.

For the new 25W charger (A2580 or A3250), the latest version is 148.0.0 from last week.

Thank you. I did find out that plugging the charger into my MacBook will force it to update so they are both on the latest 258.0.0.

Still for some reason neither charger is working properly, the phone says it's charging and gets warm but the percentage never goes up and actually goes down over time. I believe this started with one of the recent iOS updates, 18.5 or 18.6 possibly. Happens with both chargers and both phones (both iPhone 16 Pro). My 3rd party MagSafe charger in my bedroom works fine.

As a troubleshooting step, I would check the charging blocks they are plugged into. Test it with a known quality charging block. I know people commonly buy the cheapest charging adapter available and without dragging this off topic, that’s a very bad thing to do.

That’s the only thing I can think of is because if the third-party MagSafe charger works that means it’s not a problem with your phone.

True. I will say the setup is a bit unconventional but worked perfectly until recently. I am using the MagSafe cables plugged into the USB-C ports in my car and have mounted the MagSafe pucks. My car has a built in wireless charger but it is crap and doesn't work but MagSafe was wonderful to keep the phone from sliding around and actually charged it well until recently. Plugging Apple's USB-C to USB-C charging cable works as well.

That’s a very interesting set up, but it seems effective. I thought about somehow attaching a MagSafe puck to my car as a phone mount. It’s pretty strong if your phone doesn’t have a case.

Maybe something has gone wrong with the charging circuit in your car for those USB-C connections. It’s my understanding that a 20 W or higher adapter is used. There is some inefficiency and waste when using the wireless charger.
