I am about to buy a new MBP to replace my 1st gen iMac G5. I really am doing this because I am almost out of school, and the free iPod/ printer.

What I would like to know is what is the next big thing for the MBP? Will the MBP be redesigned in January and significantly updated? What types of updates can we expect in the next bump (besides ultraportable)?

One more question: Will the lowest priced MBP hold its value and usability much better than the highest priced MB in the long run?

Penryn 45nm CPUs next year. Case design, who knows. LEDs in the 17". Right now is the perfect time to upgrade to a new MBP.

We obviously don't know everything Apple has up their sleeves. If it gets updated in January, we very well may get a redesign, or we could simply get the same MBP with a new processor. Only time will tell, I suppose =/
