I like to know what is the expected shutdown time for Windows 7 64-bit running in Boot Camp in a MacBook Air 2011 model.

I have timed my shutdowns, and they were all about 20-30 seconds. This compared to sleep and hibernation which took only few seconds. Similarly, the Mac OS X shut down in mere seconds.

Is this normal behavior for Windows 7?

Your times are about the same as mine for shutdown ... which is still a bit faster than the startup times.

Sounds pretty normal ... no worries.

How come the MAC side shuts down so fast whereas Windows 7 can do so so slowly? Is this an effect of Boot Camp?

Also, I have a Netbook running Home Premium with an SSD drive. In that machine, Windows shut down in under 10 secs. Why is there a difference?

The difference in pure shutdown times is probably just due to different things that the operating systems are doing ( and cleaning up ) at shutdown time.

Windows 7 shutdowns a whole lot faster than say vista did.

Who knows exactly but as long as the shutdown time stays relatively stable I would not worry. I think you are worrying too much about small details here like I said your shutdown time on your new machine from bootcamp is about the same as my shutdown time is on my new 2011 air.

Why the netbook is faster still? Who knows maybe win 7 on a netbook has some other optimizations or is smaller in size somehow or ??? Again I would not sweat these details.

Sorry guess I should have actually timed my machine first.

Looks like my 2011 mba 13 256 gb ssd shuts down from bootcamp ( win 7 pro ) in about 6 seconds. Less than I thought originally ...

Maybe you have some program ( or more than 1 ) that needs to close a network connection or something ( or do other cleanup etc ) on shutdown. Like dropbox or ???
