What is the point of the "Cancel" button after waking from sleep

When waking from sleep, you have a login window. There are two buttons: Cancel and OK.

If you hit the cancel button, your login screen is gone and then you have to restart your computer. What is the point of this button?

Or maybe there's something wrong with your computer.

If mines is sleep and I accidentally wake it, I hit cancel and it goes back to sleep.

It its on screen saver, its the same thing. Never had it shutdown on me like that.

For some reason, it looks like 10.5.8 fixed it. Weird??

But I tried it with .6 and .7 and it canceled out and I had to restart the notebook. Weird.
