What is the point of the Find Friends app in iOS 8?

So the people I am indefinitely sharing my location with previously with Find Friends are now showing their location in the messages app (automatically). It is kind of confusing that there are additional functions within the Messages app for "Share for 30 min" "share for one hour" etc when they have no effect since I am already sharing indefinitely via Find Friends

Is Find Friends a pointless app now? I don't see why they updated it if the functionality is moved to Messages or am I missing something?

You can see all at once in app.I suppose. *shrug* but yea pointless

I liked that it was buried elsewhere. I wasn't tempted to look all the time, now i feel like a creeper

You think I should go ahead and delete the app since there isn't a clear advantage for it? To be honest I only have one friend with Find Friends so being able to see "everyone at once" isn't important.


P.S. I'm in ATL too! (Gatech)

I think of it more for temporary access to friends. Maybe you're meeting someone for a movie or dinner and can't find the place. They can share for a temporary period.

With Find Friends it's more permanent like being able to find your kids, wife, etc. or close friends.

You have the option now to share indefinitely within iOS 8 messages.
