a replacement laptop for me, I know some people use them for photo editing or DJ'ing. No judging in this thread lol, if you like it for your "secret" stash I won't say anything :p

Aperture takes up the majority of the use for my 15" rMBP, I also run couple of VMs to test stuff, the rest is just doing casual stuff like surfing the web and a bit of gaming.

yeah those photos can take up quite a bit of space

I use my rmbp as my primary machine. I have the 15" Late 2013 rmbp, 2.3Ghz 16GB RAM 512GB SSD. I do a lot of web programming using Netbeans and I have to use Virtual Machines to test the apps on several different browsers, so the 16GB comes in handy. I also do a bit of Starcraft 2 gaming on the side.

School work, web surfing, iTunes, and netflix with my late-2013 rMBP. If I can get my old mid-2009 working, my friend might borrow it to apply for a programming job.

Apps I use most (highest usage at the top of list, things towards the bottom not as much)

Safari (personal)
iCal (work)
Photoshop (personal and work)
iTunes (personal)
VLC (personal and work)
Final Cut (personal)

Used to be a lot but all the heavy work is now the Mac Pro's to do.

Now reduced to my iTunes host and general all round assistant for my profession - fixing and looking after Macs and PC's.

Design and web. But really, its a mix of everything (photography, video editing, etc).

Main pieces of software:

- Scrivener

- Office Suite

- Borderlands 2

- Logic Pro X

- Photoshop

- Spotify

Setup in sig. I do need the power.

office, work and teaching activity.
I need mobile laptop, so MBA is best choice :D

Web browsing, Word for resumes etc, mail, calendar, contacts with Gmail, Fusion 6 with Server 2008 r2, MS exchange 2010, win 7/8 VMs for testing-learning. Im in the IT field. Light iPhoto/PS/Imovie/garageband.

The late 13 rMBP 2.4/8/256 works great for me but I would not mind 16GB if I were going to run more then 2 or 3 VMs at a time. Got it for $1250 so I can always sell it in a year or 2 and go with a more mem model in the future if needed.

My 15" rMBP (2.6GHz, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD and 2GB GT750M) is my mobile workstation (indoors) and a backup machine for my home's iMac. I use it mainly for photography (processing RAW images, Photoshop), editing 4K video and playing NFS (in Boot Camp). I only use it indoors because the IPS screen still attracts glare like a solar panel.

My 15" early-2011 MBP (2.3GHz, 16GB RAM, 512GB 840 Pro and 1GB 6750M) is my outdoor workstation (it's got a nice antiglare screen) and used for the same reasons as above, but only in outdoors. Colors are also more accurate and natural on the matte display of this MBP.

Photoshop & coreldraw (vm 8.1) for design work
Garage band
Web design using mostly textmate
Games
Transcoding with handbrakeCLI
office & iWork

My rig is over powered for most ofthis but id rather have excess than struggle

Everything! ;)

Business productivity (MS Office)
Web development
Photoshop
Final Cut Pro
Personal stuff
Parallels
Etc etc

Love it so much more than the windows machines I'd been using for over a decade...

Mainly reading ebooks and pdf`s
Writing, using Citavi and InfoRapid Knowledgemap.

That's it. I got the 15 retina with 16GB and 512GB.
No, my machine is not overpowered for this kind of use. :D

The retina screen is good for my eyes and the big amount of memory helps me not to run into troubles with running windows 7 under parallels.
I need Windows because i need Citavi and InfoRapid Knowledgemap.

I love my macbook so far and i am looking forward to selling the rest of my whole equipment from Macbook Air over Macbook Pro 17, iPad3, PC, 30"TFT.
