What is the purpose of "Notify Me" function in Mail?

I know this seems like a stupid question, but how is this different than the normal notifications we've been receiving whenever we get new emails (or replies to a thread for that matter) since the beginning of mail notifications??

I've tested it out, sending myself emails to my alternative email accounts and replying to them and the phone notifies me the same way with the option on or off (albeit with a bell when its on)

Someone please enlighten.

By default you don't get banner/alert, lock screen or notification center for emails.

By default you do for "notify me" emails.

You can customise the styles for both separately.

Simple as that.

Hmm interesting, I thought everyone got notifications for all emails by default, is this a new change or something?

So basically if your notification settings say you get badges/banners/alerts etc, the Notify Me function is pointless?

Dunno if new but certainly the way it is currently, as I recently did a clean install. I think it's been a while like that, the reasoning being that many get lots of spam subscriptions, lots of work emails etc. Not that important to sew every single one.

And yeah pretty pointless. What I did for VIP (similar concept) was assign a different sound. That's about the only useful thing I could think of for you if you already get notifications for regular emails
