What is the "time clock" for in mac mail?

Hey

I might have a stupid question, what does the time clock that appears right of folders in mac mail mean? For example i have set up gmail imap in my mac mail, and often the "All e-mail" folder of gmail has this time clock at the right side. Does it mean it is updating the folder or what?

Another question is, that when I move emails from a folder to another, the subject and from field of some emails turn blank? Any idea what is causing this?
