What is the typical iPhone release cycle? 3Q-4Q once a year?

Is the typical release cycle every year around 3Q? I was considering getting the 5S but someone at work told me that the 6 would likely come 1-2Q of 2014. I might wait if its 1-2Q 2014 but 3-4Q of 2014 would be way too long.

Thoughts?
