What is this blue thing on my screen?

I opened my Macbook this morning and all of a sudden I see a blue smudge on my screen. It's always in the same spot and I tried taking a screenshot of it but it didn't appear so I think it's a problem with the screen and it won't go away. What I want to know is what is it, how did it happen and how do I get rid of it please. Thanks.

Are you watching old footage of Anita Hill testimony on YouTube perhaps?

Take a picture using a digital camera or smartphone and upload it here so that we can see it, it will make it easier to diagnose. By the sounds of it though, it's likely a pressure mark as Detrius said.

Does the smudge still appear after shutting the computer off and turning it back on?
