What is this icon in the Apple TV Remote app in Control Center?

I have searched, but can't find any reference to this icon. Does anyone know what it's used for? When I press it, it just highlights, but doesn't appear to do anything.

Closed captioning (subtitles). But it's not doing anything for me either. I can control subtitles using the on-screen menus. That button, however, does nothing.

Future enhancement? Maybe it works in older appleTVs that don’t have the Siri remote?
