I know this has been asked before, but I cannot find any info on it, or at least I do not know how to search for it.

But, what is this icon? The rectangle with the triangle, next to the time machine icon.

That's the AirPlay mirroring icon. You must have an AirPlay-capable video device on your network, for example an AppleTV. If you click on it you'll get a menu where you can use your tv set as a second monitor, or mirror (duplicate) what's on your laptop screen.

It's handy for doing presentations for example, or for watching videos from your computer on a bigger screen (like YouTube).
