What is this mark on my ZAGG screen protector?

So I recently got at an 11 Pro and have been enjoying it. Had a ZAGG screen protector professionally installed at Best Buy, which has been great as it takes a long time for fingerprints to build up and looks crystal clear.

However, there is this mark on it that is becoming continuously more annoying:

It doesn’t respond to a microfiber cloth, dry or wet.

Is there any way to remove this? Was it a mistake in the installation? I don’t have any earlier pics but I’m almost certain that it’s growing over time. It’s still relatively minor for now, but...

Sometimes screen protectors are defective and the adhesive isn’t perfectly uniform on the screen protector itself. Kind of rare too from a brand like ZAGG.

since you did get it installed at Best Buy, they’ll be more than happy to install a brand new one for you until it’s right. ZAGG is expensive but you basically get unlimited high quality screen protectors lol

You can fix that yourself very easily if you wish?


All you need is a cotton bud and vegetable cooking oil. Dip your cotton bud in the oil, lift the edge slightly with a finger nail and rub the cotton bud along the edge. The oil will fill the gap and you just need to push out and wipe off the excess with a tissue. Finally give the phone a good clean.

I did this on the bottom left corner of my screen protector I installed on phone launch day that had a similar mark and it's been great ever since.

The mark is where the adhesive layer of the protector has lost contact with the surface of the screen.

It was quite common when Apple switched from a perfectly flat screen of the 5 and earlier to the slightly rounded edges of the 6 and later.

The perimeter of the protector, which was flatter, would lose contact and result in "halos" surrounding the entire screen. To compensate, manufacturers used thicker adhesive layers, and more effectively, applied an opaque mask that mimicked the phone's own screen borders, to conceal any areas where there was separation. Others scaled down the dimensions of the protector to keep the edges away from the curvatures, but that resulted in less than complete coverage, and an unattractive gap around the screen.

It can still be a problem due to variances or defects, which is why some X and later protectors still have a narrow black border. Fully transparent protectors are still at some risk.

Gently massaging the area to restore contact may work, but if it doesn't hold, make use of their guarantee and have it replaced.

Wife and I both had Zagg - both had this happen to us. We ended up going screen protector-less on our iPhone 11 Pro Max phones for the first time since the 5.

Anker tempered glass screen protectors are a little better but I'm noticing that they're doing it more than before too. Because of this my wife and I decided to go without a screen protector and we absolutely love it.

Less reflection, smoother glass, lighter phone, etc...

Thanks for the info guys. Unfortunately I flew a long ways away from the Best Buy I had this done at for university. But next time I get a chance I make use of the lifetime warranty. Should I be able to do this at any Best Buy/ Geek Squad location?
