Hi,

I had my two macs turned on and using the internet on both but for some reason a got a message saying that both computers were using the same IP address. I didn't loose connection on either one, everything was working normal.

Can someone explain why and how this happen and how could I solve this conflict?

The same IP address of your computer is used by some other device in the network...

Thanks a lot

Is this a home network you're talking about?

 -> System Preferences -> Network -> [the interface you're using] -> TCP/IP

Both computers should probably be using DHCP.

Basically your router is issuing the same ip address to both machines. This happens when machine names are the same. You have two options either give the computers static ip addresses or different names unique to each machine.
