hey guys, what is this part called in the macbook retina? I'm hoping to get this part replaced as my macbook retina has been having this whining noise coming from the exact same area..

It looks like a speaker, did you really open it? If you want warrenty why not take it in to Apple?

Pretty sure that's the photo from iFixit

That part looks like the I/O board. This is the chip for your USB/HDMI/SD Card slots. Based on my research, it is possible for components to whine or pop, but are you sure it's not a fan?

I recommend recording the sound on video (while showing your serial number) and showing it to the people at the genius bar. I had a positive response to this (they acknowledged the issue but couldn't figure out what components were at fault, so they offered to replace the machine entirely with a new unit). Of course, YMMV. Hope you get it figured out! :apple:

I wouldn't think anything on the I/O board would hav enough current going through it to make any noise.

well there definitely is a whining nosie coming from the upper left corner of my macbook retina.. and I haven't heard it on other macbook retinas. so it's definitely a speaker part?

Keep in mind that the photo you're showing is of a component that is on the upper right hand side of the keyboard when the computer is in use. Is your issue next to the magsafe adapter?
