My mid-2015 MBP 15" retina is now 1515 cycles. I was trying to hang on to replace with the upcoming 16" MBP but that proving to be too long in coming to be :(

Should I just stump up the replacement battery monies?

Have just downloaded and inspected the report from the Coconut Battery app, as per attached.

Now wondering whether to cancel that appointment at the Apple Store ...

Looks like it should last you at least a couple more months. I would wait it out if I were you.

I've got a slightly older (manufacture date 2016-12-26) 13" MBP 2015, that I'm hanging on to until the next generation 14" is released. Mine is at 80.9% design capacity with 376 cycles, battery status 'good'.

my 2008 MacBook I had ~1500 cycles on it when I sold it with the original battery still installed
my 2011 MBP 13" I went through 3 batteries two from apple that I got around 200 cycles on them before changing them and the last one was a Newer brand that had 300 and still had 100 percent life on it.
my current 2016 MBP 13" is on its second battery. the first one had 150 cycles and was changed as part of the keyboard Service program but only had 70 percent health. The current battery is at 80 cycles and has 91 percent health. I think because my MBP is docked all the time and the battery doesn't get exercised as often its not good for them. since my second battery was installed ive been running Al-dente to keep the max charge to 70 percent and thats kept the health at 91 percent for a while now.

as for your original question, I would hold off if you can. New machines are likely to be released in the coming months.

If the battery life is effecting necessary productivity. Such as your ability to perform paid work or school work. Then definitely replace the battery.

If it's just some point of concern or a bit more annoying having to charge it more frequently. I'd say hold out for the new Mac. Unless it starts bulging. Then replace it ASAP.

Thanks for the responses, on the basis of which I'll hang on.

I was planning to cascade this to a daughter so I will probably have a new battery installed at that point, having transferred everything to that spanking new MBP ;)

The number of cycles reported before replacement seems to be highly variable though - noted the comment about the deterioration if always docked. My usage involves frequent powering up overnight but then mostly relying on the battery, topping up as required.

btw, I had the screen replaced when there was a call-in on that and I've upgraded the SSD to 1gb, so if the battery replacement means a new keyboard then my cascade will be a bit like "my grandfather's axe" ;)
