I find it odd that Apple does not list the various prices for the iphone on their web site anywhere that i can find. I know there are at least 4 different prices, but yet it just says starting at $199. I think i know what the prices are too, just baffles me why they would not have it on the site.

they want you to make up your mind that you want it before you know what you are actually going to pay. 199 is the prettiest

Thats because the prices are determined by your AT&T eligibility, not Apple. AT&T is subsidizing the phone and the price is determined by your contract/subsidized status with AT&T.

Also, I assume many other countries visit the US version of the site (rather than their own country specific Apple site) on occation, so it makes sense to just show what the phone starts at, but then let AT&T (or their countries iPhone provider) show the actual prices.
