What is with emailed pictures getting turned sideways?

Just recently I've begun to notice pictures are getting turned sideways when sent in an email. It only happens sometimes and I can't seem to figure out why this is happening.

Anyone know?

Prior to 4.2 update the Home buttom needed to be on the bottom or on the right for the "proper" picture orientation. This is corrected now and it doesn't seem to matter. Update your phone.

My phone has the most current update on it.


I took a picture long ago in the upright orientation. Today I went into my pictures library, copied that picture, and then pasted it into an email. Everything appeared as it should in the email when I sent it. When I looked at the sent email however, the picture appeared to be turned sideways, and squeezed into the same size of the original image. It was a weird.
