What is your iPad side switch setting?

Mine is rotate lock. The fact that you can mute the iPad by pressing volume down for one second makes it an easy choice for me. That was a nice feature that I use often (along with the rotate lock).

Rotation lock. I switched to the first beta of 4.1 that brought that feature back specifically for it. I hated having to go through the multitasking bar for that.

of course rotation lock

the buttons for volume are just some mm away ...
The software solution for RL was just too complicated and far away. Good to have a choice like now ...

Rotation lock all the way. My iPad is pretty much always on silent, so I don't really need a switch for it.

After they made the switch to make it mute instead of rotation lock I figured I'd just leave it be mute. Turns out I use it that way almost as much as I used the lock feature when it was the only choice.

i use the button to mute and for the lock, calling the task bar by multigesture is what i do! (each day, i lock and unlock for dozen times!)

There's a side switch?

Seriously, to be honest I do not know what mine is set to. I never use it and never see it, so it's long forgotten.

That said, given the two choices and reflecting upon how I've used the iPad since I got it, I would prefer the mute selection. (and if it were user programmable, I'd most certainly make it an on/off switch for wi-fi).

I use it for rotation, I dont mute that often and if i do then just holding the down volume for a second or so mutes it anyway.

Rotation lock, I use the feature when lying down. I usually lie on my side, and I always use the iPad in landscape mode, so having the ability to lock it in landscape rather than have it rotating 90° to portrait whenever I lie down is good.

Mute ... haven't really found that I have a need for rotation lock that often. (But I -often- have a need for mute, because if my kids hear me playing a game, I'm besieged by, "Mommy, I want to play a game on your iPad! Can I? Please can I? Please?")

with the case I use, it's much easier to get to use the multitasking bar and swipe to the right to lock, rather than fish around for the mute switch
