I just updated my old CCC and Winclone software and I am using it now on my external 1 gig HD. 2 partitions one for OS journaled and the other partition EXFAT for what Bootcamp Winclone.

This is a older HD G drive which I used for TM for the OS mac backup.. However I was having a clicking sound coming from it and sometimes it failed on backup.. I thought it was the powered 7 port hub I was using did not have enough power for the non powered G drive. However I bought a new Pluggable 10 port hub with a bigger power supply and just tried backing up and the drive made a few clicking sounds then worked... I think the Drive is failing, ready to be replaced.

Should I get a bigger drive and make 3 partitions, one for TM, one for CCC and one for Bootcamp?
Not sure if I need the TM backup now, but what was nice about it is you can find folders and files, I do photography, so that if I make a goof somehow I can retrieve what I need, where as I would have to do a full restore.

Maybe no a good idea putting all the backups on 1 HD? However if saves space the money..
Since my photography jobs use raw files and 2 sets of jPG files they can be 30-60 Gigs in size,.So I have another 3 TB HD that I use for those backups while and when I complete the photo job.

I did try Acronis but it compressed each the image of the entire HD and there was no way to access folders of files.

So I need to replace my 1 Gig HD with something.. Thinking about another G drive, 3 or 4 Gig that I could partition for backups.. Maybe add TM back on too since the large drive will have plenty of room.

any thoughts on what to use for HD backups like I am saying?

I wouldn't put all your backups in the single basket, so to speak. I use multiple drives for Time Machine and CCC backups.

HGST drives are excellent (the makers of G drives).
