What Ringtone do you use?
Mine is "Superstar by Lupe Fiasco.
It can be funny noises or a proper song.
 
I have a bunch, and I use different ones for different callers.


Just a sample:

My brother: a very sarcastic guy saying "ring, ring, RING!"
My best friend: "Inspector Gadget" theme song
My mother: Stewie saying "Mom, mom, MOM!" over and over
My friends: weird song/ringtone that says "I've got a friend, you haven't got one..."
The guy I'm sort of seeing: "Brown Skin" India.Arie song
friends, who are the parents of a five year old buddy of mine: The Theme from "Little Einsteins"

Default ringtone: "Not Ready to Make Nice" by the Dixie Chicks.


I like to know who's calling before I look. :D

My ringtone is a simple tri-tone, electronic sound. But I never actually hear it - my phone is on vibrate 100% of the time, as I find loud ringtones annoying, tacky, and ridiculous. ;)

How do you carry your phone that you can always feel the vibration?

I got the one from the Apple ads. Not because its in the ads but because its a normal ringtone. I mean what the hell happened to normal ringtones? Why do Apple advertise the ringtone but not provide it so you have to create it yourself?

AGGHH! AGGHH! AGGHH! AAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH! RINGTONES EVERYWHERE!!!!

I dont want to listen to your **** music thankyou!
 
mom's ringtone- "mother" - danzig
dad's ringtone- "that's my job" - conway twitty
wife's ringtone- "demonica" - the dwarves
daughter's ringtone- "papa don't preach" - madonna
house ringtone- "loose lips" - kimya dawson
brent's ringtone- "only drink on days that end in y" - throw rag
sheryl's ringtone- "psych0pharmocology" - firewater
heather's ringtone- "jumpin' someone else's train" - the cure
work- "take this job and shove it" - johnny paycheck
etc.
 
I use a tweaked version of the iLife "cell phone ringing" effect file. If you want that one, the original file is here:

/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound Effects/Work - Home/Cell Phone Ringing.aif

Drag into Garageband, convert etc. and you're away. The tweaked version (made by an iPhonehacks reader) is here.

I have the Apple ad ringtone as my ringtone for the same reason you listed.
 
For my girlfriend its 'Slow Show' by The National.
For everyone else its 'Right Said Fred' by Charley Records Studio Group.
 
I use the "Old Phone" ringtone by default and set songs for friends and family.

"Knock Down Drag Out War" by Weezer or "First Day of My Life" by Bright Eyes for my lady
"Lex" by Ratatat for some friends
"Man I Used to Be" by K-OS for my boy 2na
"Chesterfield King" by Jawbreaker
"Chemical Warfare" by the Dead Kennedys
"Lollipopsichord" by Black Moth Super Rainbow
"Chameleon" by Herbie Hancock
"Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service
"Waiting Room" by Fugazi
"Peaches En Regalia" by Frank Zappa

...and a ton more.

I've made a lot of ringtones, but honestly, I use the "Old Phone" more often than anything. Even when fully tweaked, the ringtones I make in Garage Band are never loud enough. I always miss calls.
 
A Metal Gear Solid codec ringtone i mixed in Garageband and sometimes i also use the ringtone that apple use in their ads. Both files are attached if anyone is interested

It's usually either on my desk in front of me, or in my hand in front of me. ;)

And if it's in my pocket and I miss a call, it's not the end of the world. I do, after all, have voicemail. It sure beats having an obnoxious, look-at-me-everybody, I-have-no-regard-for-anyone-around-me ringtone.

People seem to forget that a we don't always have to be in touch 24x7x365.
Short of the caller being Publisher Clearinghouse or Huge Hefner you can wait:p
