I'm a bit concerned that something is wrong with my mac. I'm running a late 2014 27"iMac, it's been basically fine since I bought it new. I have in mind to replace it, but I've been waiting for the new Apple Silicon replacement for the 27", and I'd like to keep this one going till that arrives.

I was passing the time playing a game (factorio) and catching up on a podcast in the background. The first thing that suggested something was wrong was the episode ended and it didn't load the new episode. I quit the game and the podcast app was beachballing. I force-quit it and found it wouldn't reopen, so I did a reboot of the system. When I got back in, I fond that the podcast app won't launch at all, and when I open safari the usual list of "recently vistited" websites is empty. I ran a disk utility first aid check and it came back clear, but I'm a bit concerned that this is a symptom of something going wrong with my mac. Does anyone have any thoughts about what might be up? I'd rather like to be able to continue listening to my podcasts, but the app simply won't launch, the icon in the dock bounces a couple of times and stops. I don't see any other things obviously wrong, but clearly something has happened. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on and what I can do to get it back into normal working order? I'm reasonably sure most of my vital data is secure in backup, so if it comes to a full clear and reinstall I can deal with that, but I'd rather avoid the hassle.

It was on 11.2.something. It has been nagging me to update for a while, so I figured running the update might fix things. I set the update to happen and went to bed. Now (next morning), it's on 11.3.1, and when I open the podcast app it launches and tells me something was wrong with the library and is rebuilding it. I guess something in my user file space got corrupted somewhere along the line. It seems that everything is mostly working again.
